12 June 2008: FARE appoints new President
On 11 June, FARE’s Executive Board elected a new President. Previous President, Bart de Boer has stepped down following his departure from the position of CEO of Eindhoven Airport. The Board has nominated Neil Pakey, CEO of Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport to serve as interim President until the end of 2008.

02 June 2008: European Commission to endanger duty-free retail at regional airports.
FARE is grevely concerned about European Commission's proposals to amend Directive 12/92/EEC dictating general arrangements for excise duty in the European Union. The Commission proposal would eliminate duty-free sales made to interlining or intra-EU transfer travellers at their airport of origin.

30 April 2008: European Commission formalises secondary trading of airport slots.
European Commission adopted today a communication on the application of the slot allocation Regulation. The Communication clarifies a number of issues in order to ensure a better implementation of the existing rules and to improve the efficient use of scarce capacity at congested Community airport. In particular, the Commission has accepted secondary trading of airport slots as compatible with the existing Regulation.

 FARE supports Asia’s No. 1 regional airport event in Sichuan, China 

The Forum of European Regional Airports (FARE) is participating at the China Regional Airport Conference 2008, which will be held on the 20-21 May in Chengdu, Sichuan (Link). This high level event will be co-hosted by the China Civil Airports Association (CCAA) – of which 96 airports are members - and the Organizing Committee of the Western China International Economy and Trade Fair.

07 April 2008 - EU Transport Ministers back FARE on Airport Charges
Today, the EU's 27 transport ministers reached a political agreement on the proposed Directive on Airport Charges. The ministers followed the position of the European Parliament, agreeing that the proposed Directive should apply only to airports handling in excess of 5 million passengers annually.

11 March 2008 - European Parliament to adopt a new regulation on Airport Security.
The new document sets out common rules in the field of aviation security, such as screening passengers and cabin baggage, access control, in-flight security measures inlcuding 'sky marshals'. Also, Regulation lays down provisions on financing security measures.

15 January 2008 - FARE welcomes European Parliament's decision on Airport Charges.
The Forum of European Regional Airports (FARE) welcomes today's vote by the European Parliament on the Airport Charges Directive an dto apply those new regulations only to Europe's largest airports with annual traffic of more than 5 million passengers.

11 January 2008 - European Commission publishes a communication on "An Agenda for Sustainable Future in the General and Business Aviation".
For the first time since the creation of the internal EU aviation market the Commission has studied the sector of general and business aviation. The Commission proposes to integrate general and business aviation into the EU air transport policy.

12 December 2007 - European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee publishes a study on "The consequences of the growing European low-fares airlines sector".
The study provides an analysis of the impact of the changes in the air transport market as a consequence of the emergence of low cost airlines.

03 December 2007 - FARE welcomes Transport Ministers' decision on Airport Charges
The Forum of European Regional Airports today welcomed teh outcome of the Transport Ministers' debate on Airport Charges. Ministers agreed on Friday to limit the application of the new regulation on Airport Charges to airports of over 5 million passengers a year against the European Commission's proposal to apply the regulation to all airports with 1 million passengers.

30 November 2007 - FARE calls on Transport Ministers to back European Parliament on Airport Charges Directive
The Forum of European Regional Airports (FARE) called today on EU transport ministers to back the European Parliament's position on the proposed Airport Charges Directive. Ministers gathered yesterday in Brussels for a three day meeting, during which they will consider this new regulation governing how operators charge the airport users.

21 November 2007 - European Parliament backs FARE position on Airport Charges. The Forum of European Regional Airports (FARE) welcomes today's vote by the European Parliament's Transport and Tourist Committee to substantially amend the European Commission's new Directive on Airport Charges. The Committee this morning voted overhelmingly to apply Directive only to Europe's largest airports, saving regional airports accross Europe from the high costs and heavy administrative burdens of the new regulation.
